Announcements for July 11/12

Beginning Tuesday, July 14th, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes will be offered every Tuesday evening from 6:30–8:30pm in building 4 for anyone 16 years of age and older. Group Leader Richard Clements will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon on July 25th in the Fellowship Hall from 11:00am–1:00pm. Join Dr. David Piccolo, Pastor as he gives an informative look at the legal rights of Christian leaders and teachers in the private and public areas. The event is free and a light lunch will be provided
The adult mission trip to the Black Mountain Home for Children & Families will be Oct. 5th–Oct 10th. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please sign up at the Information Table. Further information will be upcoming.
Operation Christman Child will be having “Christmas in July” this month. If you would like to participate, please stop by their room in the entrance area and pick up an ornament with suggested gifts that will be used to pack shoeboxes.

HOW CAN I WALK WITH JESUS DAILY?

1) BECAUSE YOU ARE LOVED, CARE FOR OTHERS

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Colossians 3:12-13 NIV

Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them. Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.

Colossians 3:18-21 NIV

DO I TREAT OTHERS LIKE JESUS TREATS ME?

2) PUT ON LOVE AND LET PEACE RULE

And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.

Colossians 3:14-15 NIV

Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to curry their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord. Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. IS PEACE RULING MY REACTIONS?

Slavery in the ancient world was a complicated and painful reality, and it should never be used to justify the oppression, cruelty and racism present in slavery. But it is notable that an entire book of the Bible -Philemon- was written to urge a Christian slave owner to release his runaway slave, Onesimus, and see him as a beloved brother in Christ. The gospel does not leave people where it finds them. In Christ, old categories of power, status, and superiority begin to break down because every believer stands equally before Jesus.

3) LET HIS MESSAGE CHANGE YOU AND OTHERS

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:16-17NIV I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.

Closing Prayer

Lord, thank You that I am chosen, holy, and dearly loved. Help me this week to put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love. Let Your peace rule my reactions, let Your Word dwell richly in my heart, and help everything I say and do honor the name of Jesus. Amen.
